Welcome to My World of Jewelry

Greetings from Beautiful Puerto Rico! My name is Marisol TorresSandlin, I would like to WELCOME you to my website. I must confess – many years ago – I was one of those patrons walking around the local craft fair with my oooo’s and ahhhh’s at craftmanship and beauty. I stumbled onto a table with beaded jewelry. I thought “I can do that”. So I went to the local craft store at the time, picked up supplies, and then went back again bought more supplies, and yup you guess it went back a third time for other supplies. I was committed! The rest is learning through trial and error, getting better, and asking questions. If you were to ask me how long have, I been beading, making jewelry, or working in the industry? I would answer by asking the following question – Does stringing pasta on yarn count?

The Beginning of My Jewelry Journey

On a serious note, my beading journey began in 2001 after the craft festival. I started to make beaded jewelry that matched my colorful outfits perfectly. I started to give my gifts of my jewelry and expanded my beading into weaving and complex designs. I can look at a picture and either mimic or build upon the art form. I enjoy using color to tell the story of emotions. I retired in 2016 from the United States Navy after a career spanning 28 years. It was my absolute privilege and honor to be able to serve. Beading centered me – it was a therapy that I never knew. My husband and I moved to Puerto Rico in 2016. Unfortunately, in 2017 Hurricane Maria hit our beautiful island while we were off island travelling.

We could not return home for a time. We were at a loss of what to do next. I found a jewelry school in Las Vegas, Nevada where we had recently traveled to during our “adventures”. In February 2018 I started the Jewelry Manufacturing and repair with diamonds and other precious stones setting a 35 week/762 hour course at John Fish Jewelry School. I was able to have one on one instruction from Mr. Pedro Torres (no relation 😊) a Master Jeweler and Mr. John Fish a Gemological Institute of America Graduate Gemologist.

We returned to Puerto Rico in November 2018, and I continue designing, making, and manufacturing jewelry. Only this time I was not solely working with beads but incorporating bronze, silver, and, gold into my jewelry. The next step was to become certified in Puerto Rico as an El Fomento Artesanal. I started the certification process in July of 2019 and was Certified as a Fomento Artesania September 2019. Since then I have continue to improve my technique and stay in contact with both Mr. Torres and Mr. Fish.

In March 2022 I attended Studio Jeweler’s in New York City, New York for a Comprehensive Jewelry Format a 12 weeks/360 hour with multiple instructors emphasizing on gem/stone setting. The knowledge gained has assisted me in meticulously set gemstones and stones in a variety of settings in jewlery. In October 2024, my husband Christopher and I attended the Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing for Jewelry Design(CAD/CAM) Course. It was a 7 weeks/210 hour course at The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Carlsbad, California. Our instructor was Mr. Manuel Basmajian with over 20 years of jewelry design and CAD/CAM modeling.

Both Christopher and I are extremely excited to incorporate the next generation of jewelry design from ENCHANTMENT BY MARI to YOU.

These are a few of my personal philosophies/mottos/beliefs/etc…
